Set of ten grisaille and gilt decorated soup plates with an elaborate centrally gilt monogrammed “M” surmounted by a generous swag of cloth entwined with flowers issuing from a gilt Grecian temple with a lion head in the center of the upper frieze, a sweet pair of doves are shown roosting on a sprig of leaves at the base, a spearhead border encircles the scene which itself is surrounded by a wide Du Paquier style border. The plates are part of a larger service commissioned in celebration of a marriage to a non-armigerous family, hence the use of the monogram rather than a coat of arms.
